Podocarpus alpinus "Red Tip" Description tasmanski podokarp "Red Tip" Description Small, broad, slow growing evergreen shrub (H 0,8-1 m, W 1,3-1,5 m). Branches widely spreading, short, densly branched. Needles (1 cm) narrow, linear, flat, young needles coppery red, later dark green; in autumn and winter dark red to violet-red. Flowers unremarkable, male and female inflorescence on separate plants; dioecious plant. Fruits rare or absent. Tolerates pruning well. Not reliably winter-hardy in central-European continental climate, some light winter protection required.

These plants grow well in sun or in partial shade. Usually they tolerate more sun and heat if given enough moisture; in partial or light shade they need less moisture.
Conifers have woody stems (i. e. tree trunk and branches) and are also called woody plants or trees. Their leaves are transformed into needles or scales, usually being hard and leathery.
