Srednje veliko, povešavo, široko rastoče zimzeleno drevo, iglavec (V 7-12 m, Š 4-5 m). Krošnja široko stožčasta, neenakomerna, slikovita. Stranske veje lokasto upognjene in močno povešene, široko razprte. Vršički poganjkov izrazito povešeni. Lubje sivo-rjavo, luskasto. Iglice luskaste (0,2-0,4 cm), gladke, modre - temno zelene. Cvetovi ločeni moški in ženski na isti rastlini, enodomna vrsta, moška socvetja (2-3 mm) rjavo-zelena, ženska storžasta socvetja modro-zelena. Cvetenje: april-maj. . Najbolje uspeva na globokih, zmerno vlažnih, hranilnih tleh, na sončnih do polsenčnih rastiščih. Dobro prenaša občasno sušo, mraz, vročino, veter in mestno okolje.
