Velika, na mraz občutljiva (min. +5 °C), delno listopadna do zimzelena vzpenjavka. Listi dlanasti (6-8 cm), 3-krpi, gladki, zeleni. Cvetovi veliki, zvezdasti (8-11 cm); veliki, suličasti, obodni cvetni listi vijolično modri; notranji tanki, nitasti cvetni listi rdeče-beli; v sredini izraziti veliki prašniki in plodnice. Cvetenje: junij-oktober. Plodovi ovalni (6 cm), mesnati, oranžni. Zorenje: oktober-november. Privablja metulje in čebele.
