Description
Medium-sized, upright, moderately growing deciduous shrub, ornamental in fruit-plant (H 2,5-3 m, W 2-3 m). Leaves simple, ovate (5-10 cm), smooth, glossy, dark green, autumn colour orange-red to red. Flowers in dense umbels, simple, cup-shaped (0,7 cm), white. Flowering period: May. Fruits in umbells, round (up to 1,2 cm), fleshy, black, juicy, edible. Ripening time: September-November, high-yielding variety, fruits suitable for fresh use or for cooking and making jams; persist on the branches long into winter. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding, healthy shrub. Requires deep, always moderately moist soils.
