Hitro rastoče listopadno drevo ( V 25m , Š 10m ). Zeleni listi lahko dosežejo premera tudi do 70 cm in so drobno nazobčeni, dlakavi ter ovalno srčaste oblike. Zacveti po 4 letih. Cvetovi so pokončni in se odpirajo v maju v grozdastem socvetju velikem 25-30 cm, so medonosni ter privlačni za čebele.
Pavlovnija Shan Tong je hibrid , ki je odporen na nizke zimske temperature (do -28 sopinj ). Pri sajenju drevesa prvi dve leti pazimo, da so sadike dovolj zalite, vendar voda ne sme zastajati. Dobro uspeva v večini tal, razen v peščenih ne. Sorta ni invazivna . Les drevesa je vsestransko uporaben, elastičen, odporen na vlago in gnilobo. Je lahek, uporaben v ladjedelništvu, za glasbila, športne rekvizite, pohištvo in za kurjavo.
These plants grow well in sun or in partial shade. Usually they tolerate more sun and heat if given enough moisture; in partial or light shade they need less moisture.

Among grown ornamental plants there are numerous varieties with especially intense or diverse autumn colour than by the basic species.
